The Cibolo Steele Knights continued their winning ways coming off of a 45-21 first round win against SA Brandeis a week ago. They now face the Vipers of Vandegrift in round 2.

The Knights (10-1) were led by their star running back Brenden Brady, who ran all over the Broncos in their opening round playoff win last week.

Brady carried the ball 19 times for 174 yards and three touchdowns. As he has been all year for the Knights, he carried the workload and led his team to victory.

Senior quarterback Xavier Martin was limited to 86 yards (9-of-14) and a touchdown through the air.

But it was his legs that helped propel the Knights. He too hit the century mark rushing for 102 yards on nine carries. As a team, the Knights rushed for 356 yards.

For the Vandegrift Vipers, they are coming off of a 27-26 victory over the Johnson Jaguars. It was a hard-fought game for the Vipers as they scored 13 in the final quarter to escape with the one-point victory.

Vipers Senior Quarterback Alex Fernandes accounted for 242 of the teams 357 yards. He passed for 137 yards completing 17 of his 26 attempts. He also did it on the ground rushing 11 times for 107 yards and a score.

This is the first meeting between these two teams. The Knights are currently on a nine game winning streak and are hoping to carry that momentum into their game Friday night.

Here are my keys to victory for Steele:

  • Get Brendan Brady going early. Establish the running game with him. Let it open up the passing game for Xavier Martin.
  • Take care of the ball.
  • Be patient on the offensive end. Do not think you have to hit the BIG play every single time.
  • Defensively, get to the ball. Key in on Viper’s Fernandes. He is what makes them go.

The game will be in Rattlers Stadium in San Marcos and is scheduled to kickoff at 7:30 p.m. Texas Redzone Report editor will be covering the game, so look for updates on Twitter @txredzonereport and a recap tomorrow.
