When entering a state championship game, one of the biggest factors in determining who comes ready to play is who has the most experience in high pressure games.
With the 3A Division I state title set to take place on Thursday evening, Mineola, the defending state champs in the classification, will definitely have that advantage over Yoakum.
In each of the past two seasons, the Yellowjackets have lost to the eventual state champions, but this season is setting up to be their year to finally capture a state ring.
Despite starting 0-2, Mineola has rattled off 13 straight wins, all by double digits, to reach the state championship for the second time in three years.
On the other hand, Yoakum has been one of the more surprise teams of the playoffs this season.
Coming into the postseason, the Bulldogs were not expected to make it far with their 6-4 regular season record, but with close wins over Goliad, Halletsville, and Malakoff, Yoakum will be playing for their first state title since 1952.
Mineola will come out firing from the word go. Experience will prove to be the factor in this one as the Yellowjackets will defeat Yoakum to give their senior class a much-deserved state title.
