Upset-hungry Sweetwater looks to knock off undefeated West Orange-Stark

To open up day two of the 11-man Texas high school football state championships, the Sweetwater Mustangs will clash with defending champion West Orange-Stark in the 4A Division II final.

Sweetwater’s road to state has been wildly unpredictable as they have knocked off quality opponents, including 2014 champion Gilmer and Krum, over the course of the past five weeks to reach their first state title game in 31 years.

For West Orange-Stark, it’s been more of the same team that we’ve seen on this stage many times before.

After winning the 4A Division II state title last season, West Orange-Stark has come back bigger and better this year with fifteen straight wins, including eight shutouts.

The West Orange-Stark defense has been monstrous this year by only allowing an average of 4.2 points per game. In the playoffs, they have only allowed 33 points in five games.

Sweetwater however has faced powerful teams on their road to state, but none as efficient as West Orange-Stark. An upset in this one is possible, but unlikely.

Sweetwater will punch first and set the tone, but West Orange-Stark will regroup and do what they have done for years.

Their defense will be superb once again as West-Orange Stark wins by 17.
