The Texas Tech Red Raiders have used their pipeline to Cibolo Steele High School to bolster their 2017 recruiting class once again.

We reported over a week ago that Steele junior quarterback Xavier Martin was taking a visit with the Red Raiders. He left with an offer and this afternoon he committed to Texas Tech.

While Martin is a 2017 recruit and there is plenty of time for his decision to change before national signing day in 2017, with former Steele coach Mike Jinks in tow in Lubbock and with several former Steele alumni and current teammates Bryson Denley and Antoine Cox-Wesley both committed there, the chances are likely low that he’ll waver away or flip.

“I really loved the campus, it was really nice,” Martin told WreckEm 247.

Martin said that although Jinks left Steele before he arrived as a freshman, he has a good relationship with the Texas Tech running backs coach.

“I know him really well, he’s been one of the coaches that talks to me the most because he’s at our school a lot. Ever since seventh grade I met him,” Martin said. “I have a very good relationship with him, I call him maybe two times a week.”

With Mansfield Lake Ridge quarterback Jett Duffey also committed to Tech, Kliff Kingsbury and his staff certainly have no shortage of talent under center for the next few years.

Some reports claim that Texas Tech has been looking at Martin to possibly play corner, although he steps into a huge role as the new starting quarterback for the Knights with two-year starter L.G. Williams now at Texas State University.

Martin’s only offer was from Tech, but he had also been recruited by a number of schools, including Texas and Baylor.
