The Manvel Mavericks are now 8-0 on the season and a perfect 6-0 in district play after Friday night’s 48-17 win over the Santa Fe Indians.

The Mavericks and Indians were tied up with seven points apiece after the first quarter, but Manvel’s big second and third quarter effort allowed them to create some space and avoid any comeback attempts by Santa Fe.

Manvel scored three unanswered touchdowns in the second quarter and outscored Santa Fe 13-3 in the third.

Senior quarterback Kason Martin led Manvel with an accurate 15-of-20 passing for 223 yards and four touchdowns.

Running back Garrison Johnson scored one of the team’s two touchdown runs, breaking free for 59 yards. He finished the game with 81 yards on three rushing attempts.

Martin was able to connect with several receivers all game, but none more so than junior Warren Laster, who scored two touchdowns and caught six passes for 71 yards.

The Mavericks will finish off the regular season next Friday on the road against Galena Park (1-7). They currently lead District 23-5A.
