The Manvel Mavericks are looking like a much different team than the one that went down to the wire at the State Championships last year.

Gone are names like Kason Martin, Jalen Preston, and Kam Scott, but the Mavericks’ winning ways are still alive and well as they dominated in week one with a 42-6 win over Clear Lake.

Manvel found the end zone early and often, scoring 35 first half, and limiting Clear Lake to just six. Manvel would score seven more in the second half before it was all over.

The Mavericks were led by senior quarterback Josh Coltrin, who was 14 of 18 for 210 yards and three touchdowns. Coltrin also rushed for an additional pair of touchdowns.

Senior running back Ladarius Owens, who played a big part in the Mavericks’ 2017 playoff run, ran for 112 yards.

Manvel looks to go 2-0 this week as they take on Crosby on the road on Friday at 7 p.m. Clear Lake will be looking for their first win at home against Richmond George Ranch.
