Cotton Bowl Stadium Prep Showcase Day 1 – Lightning and Cedar Hill Record Wins

Weather was the story of Day 1 of the Cotton Bowl Stadium Prep Showcase. With a brilliant lightning display in the far distance the Waco Midway Panthers and Mansfield Lake Ridge Eagles, were able to complete their pregame warm ups but shortly thereafter lightning struck close enough to the stadium to cause a delay.

With the original kickoff set for 5:00pm, the teams were finally able to kick off at 8:20pm.

When the game finally got underway, Lake Ridge marched 69 yards capped by a 15-yard Chandler Rogers run.

Midway was forced to punt on the next drive. Lake Ridge drove to the Midway 2-yard line before settling for a 19-yard Tabor Allen field goal to extend their lead to 10-0 with 2:34 remaining in the 1st.

Midway managed a first down on 3 plays before lightning once again forced a delay with 1:41 left in the 1st.  Shortly thereafter the game was officially canceled.

With the cancellation Midway remains 0-1. Next week the Panthers face Killeen (1-1) who beat Vista Ridge 43-6 in Week 2.
