Looking at the final score in this game may give you the false impression that this game was never in doubt. The truth is that late into the 2nd quarter this was a tight game and Westfield was in position to tie the game.

With 4:08 remaining in the 2nd quarter, North Shore was clinging to a 7-0 lead. Westfield had just forced a North Shore punt and had returned it to the North Shore 49-yard line.

And that is where the wheels came off for Westfield. After Westfield got one first down to the North Shore 38-yard line, Dorian Hewett intercepted a Ra’Quon Washington pass at the North Shore 27-yard line.

North Shore then struck quickly. On third and 3 from their own 34, Dematrius Davis hit Charles King on a slant and King raced to the end zone giving North Shore a 14-0 lead with 2:37 left in the 1st half.

On the ensuing drive, Ra-Quon Washington was sacked for a 14-yard loss on first down. North Shore then began taking time outs to preserve the clock. The strategy worked as Westfield was forced to punt and North Shore returned the punt to the Westfield 47 with 1:30 remaining in the half.

North Shore opened the drive on double-pass with Shadrach Banks hitting John Gentry for a 19-yard gain. Dematrius Davis finished off the drive on a stutter-step keeper up the middle for a 15-yard touchdown with 0:35 remaining in the half.

Westfield had been on the verge of tying the late in the 2nd quarter but instead went into the half down 0-21.

In the second half, North Shore extended their lead to 45-0 behind a Zach Evans 3-yard TD run and a 8-yard Dematrius Davis to Ajani Carter 8-yard TD Pass.

Westfield was able to avoid the shut out by calling a time out with 3 seconds remaining in the game to allow Abel Silva to bang home a 35-yard field goal as time expired.

Simply put I am a fan of Texas high school football. I attend as many high school football games as I can - 82 games in 2017, 86 games in 2018, 76 games in 2019. I also have some limited computer skills and I use those to provide information to the #txhsfb community. I am always looking for new ways to provide information to the #txhsfb community. If you have ideas and suggestions, tag or DM me on Twitter.
