Turnovers are usually the key in any football game and the Saturday match between the Pearland Oilers and Cinco Ranch Cougars was no different. Pearland led 28-21 with 3:49 left in the 2nd quarter before Cinco Ranch committed turnovers on four of its next five drives (three interceptions and a fumble). After the series of turnovers, Pearland led 42-21.

J.D. Head starred for Pearland completing 20 of 32 passes for 348 yards and 6 touchdowns. Head added 64 yards rushing. Jaelin Benefield added the Oilers other two touchdowns on 18 carries for 113 yards.

Cameron Harper was 12 for 21 passing for 287 yards with 1 touchdown and 4 interceptions. Harper added 2 running touchdowns.

Cinco Ranch’s defensive performance to start the season is concerning. The 138 points the Cougars have surrender in the first three games are the most the Cougars have ever given up in the first three games of a season and the most points Cinco Ranch has given up in three consecutive games since 2001.

Pearland moves to 3-0 on the season. The Oilers have an off week next week before opening district play against Alief Taylor (0-3) on Friday, September 28th.

Cinco Ranch falls to 0-3 on the season for the first time in team history. The Cougars will host Cedar Park (1-2) on Friday, September 28th for their homecoming game.

Simply put I am a fan of Texas high school football. I attend as many high school football games as I can - 82 games in 2017, 86 games in 2018, 76 games in 2019. I also have some limited computer skills and I use those to provide information to the #txhsfb community. I am always looking for new ways to provide information to the #txhsfb community.
