After back-to-back losses, the Central Catholic Buttons are closer to righting the ship after a big week four victory over Austin Regents 36-15.
Both teams went scoreless in the first quarter, but it was clearly just a slow start, as the Buttons rattled off 20 unanswered second-quarter points to give Regents an early deficit after they scored the first touchdown of the game on a 54-yard touchdown reception by Jackson Mountain.
Central Catholic first got on the scoreboard midway through the second as Nick Chavez found Gibby Garza for a four-yard touchdown catch.
After a 30-yard field goal, Central Catholic found paydirt again, this time Charlie Gomez playing the role of the passer to Aiden O’Connell for a 38-yard touchdown pass.
Franco Querido delivered for the Buttons once again to end the first half with another field goal.
Regents scored again and converted a two-point conversion to start the second half, but they were unable to keep up with Central Catholic and narrow the early deficit.
The Buttons were led by quarterback Nick Chavez, who completed 21 of 32 passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns. Garza had six receptions for 50 yards and two touchdowns, and Zach Davidsmeyer dominated the ground game with 127 rushing yards.
Central Catholic will be on the road next week against Devine (2-2).
