In a game where the largest lead by either team was 13 points, Brazos come up with a fumble recovery in the end zone with 4:24 remaining in the game to seal a 37-34 victory.

The scene was set when Louise partially blocked a Brazos punt and took over the ball at the Brazos 40-yard line with 6:43 remaining in the game. On the first play Kayleb Marek carried the ball down to the Brazos 14-yard line and a face-masking penalty moved the ball to the Brazos 7-yard line. Two rushes moved the ball to the Brazos 1-yard line and the Hornets looked posed to take the lead. On the next play the ball came loose and was recovered by the Cougars in the end zone. After the officials huddled it was ruled a fumble before the runner broke the plane of the goal line and recovered in the end zone for a touchback.

The Cougars were then able to go on a 11-play drive that consumed the remaining 4:42 of remaining game time.

Early in the game it looked like this might not be a close contest with Brazos jumped out to an early 13-0 lead when Jalyn Vela rushed for touchdowns of 45 and 94 yards on the Cougars first two drive.

Louise’ Kristian Munoz would cut the lead to 13-6 on the next drive with a 1-yard touchdown run. Brazos would fumble the ensuing kickoff return and Louise would take the lead, 14-13, on 3-yard run from quarterback Colin Gonzales and a successful 2-point try.

The teams would battle back and forth and the lead would change hands several times before fumble at the goal line that sealed the game.

Both teams have a bye week next week before entering district play in Week 8.
