El Campo scored on a 2-yard Dotrell Dove run to cap a 7-play 71-yard drive to take a 20-7 lead with 2:46 remaining in the 2nd quarter. The closest the Ricebirds would get to the end zone the rest of day was the Fulshear 27-yard but the El Campo defense contained the Fulshear offense to hang on for a 20-14 win.
El Campo opened the game with a 10-play 58-yard drive capped by 1-yard touchdown run from Charles Shorter with 6:42 remaining in the 1st quarter. The big play of the drive as a 36-yard pass from Lynn Osina that moved the ball to the Fulshear 2-yard line.
Fulshear answered on the next drive going 63 yards in 11 plays capped by a 1-yard run from Keaton Huebner to tie the score at 7 with 2:16 remaining in the 1st quarter.
On the next drive, which spanned into the second quarter, the Ricebirds drove 70 yards in 8 plays capped by a 12-yard touchdown run from James Anderson with 10:38 remaining in the 2nd quarter.
El Campo would punt on their third drive and then would cap their scoring for the day on their 4th drive – a 7-play 71-yard drive capped by a 2-yard Dotrell Dove touchdown run.
Flushear scored early in the 4th quarter on a 14-yard Keaton Huebner run to cut the lead the Ricebird lead to 20-14.
Fulshear’s final drive of the day would end at the El Campo 15-yard line with 9 seconds remaining in the game to secure the Ricebird’s 20-14 win.
El Campo moves to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in district play. The Ricebirds meet Brazosport (1-4 overall, 0-1 in district play) next Friday at home. Brazosport lost to Sealy 14-40 Friday night.
Fulshear drops to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in strict play. The Chargers travel to Bay City (2-4 overall, 1-1 in district play) next Friday. Bay City lost to Needville 42-62 Friday night.
