Depending on the source you are willing to believe, the Dickinson Gators were favored by anywhere from 31 to 35 points. In the end those predictions proved to be accurate, but in the early going the Clear Falls Knights gave the Gators everything they could handle.

The Knights took the open drive 75 yards in 8 plays capped by a 8-yard Gavin Esquivel to Brandon Woodson pass to grab an early 7-0 lead.

The Knights recovered a pooch kick on the ensuing kickoff and were positioned to extend the lead even further, but the Gator defense stiffened and stopped the Knights at the Gator 25-yard line. Driving into a stiff wind, the Knights chose to go for 4th and 10 from the Gator 25-yard line and failed to convert.

After an exchange of punts, the Gators started at the Clear Falls 49-yard line and covered the 49 yards in 10 plays capped by a 1-yard Jordan Green touchdown run to tie the game at 7 with 33 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

On the first play of the second quarter, Clear Falls’ Donte Proctor broke free and raced down the right down the right sideline, was caught from behind, knocked off balance and stumbled into the end zone from 68 yards out to give the Knights the lead 14-7 on 13 seconds into the quarter.

From that point on it would be the Dickinson Gator Show as the Gators scored 42 points in the remainder of the second quarter and would shut of the Knights for the remainder of the game.

The Gators would answer back 41 seconds later on a 1-yard Mike Welch run to tie the game at 14-14 with 11:06 remaining in the second quarter.

The Gators would score on their remaining 4 drives is the second quarter, and score on an interception return, and hold the Knights to 14 yards total offense the remainder of the quarter.

Mike Welch would twice connect with Darryl Harris on long touchdowns passes (61 and 48 yard)  and would add a rushing touchdown (12 yards), Jordan Green would add a 5-yard TD run, and Savien would return and interception 40 yards for a touchdown to give the Gators a halftime lead of 49-14.

In the second quarter Dickinson’s Head Coach, John Snelson, would provide some comic relief when he snagged an errant Clear Falls pass on the sideline and struck the Heisman pose.

The Gators added a 39-yard Mike Welch run for a touchdown early in the second quarter to produce the final score of 55-14.

Dickinson recorded 511 yards of offense (389 rushing, 122 passing) lead by Mike Welch (147 yards rushing, 122 yards passing) and Jordan Green (163 yards rushing).

Dickinson moves to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in district play. Dickinson faces Clear Springs (3-3 overall, and 2-0 in district play) next Friday night in a key 24-6A match up.

Clear Falls is now 3-4 overall and 0-3 in district play. Clear Falls faces Alvin (0-6 overall, and 0-2 in district play).

Simply put I am a fan of Texas high school football. I attend as many high school football games as I can - 82 games in 2017, 86 games in 2018, 76 games in 2019. I also have some limited computer skills and I use those to provide information to the #txhsfb community. I am always looking for new ways to provide information to the #txhsfb community.
