The Woodlands Highlanders’ defense surrendered only 188 yards total offense to the Klein Bearkats while Junior kicker Fabrizio Pinton kicked three field goals to lead the Highlanders to a 23-7 win over Klein on Saturday night.
The Highlanders defense was stingy all night, starting the night with an interception on the first drive of the game by senior safety Ben Langston and wouldn’t allow the Bearkats past The Woodlands 35 yard line until they scored a touchdown late in the third quarter.
Pinton would take advantage of the Langston interception, kicking 25-yard field goal to give the Highlanders an early 3-0 lead.
Klein would turn the ball over on downs on the next drive when a fake punt came up well short of the first down. Following the turn over on downs, Pinton banged home a 45-yard field goal to extend the Highlander lead to 6-0.
Pinton would also contribute in the kickoff game, kicking the ball through the end zone 4 times, resulting in Klein starting at their own 25 after each of the kickoffs with no chance to return the ball.
Casey Sunseri lead the Highlanders offense with 154 passing completing 14 of 24 attempts and adding 59 yards rushing on 12 carries.
Sunseri completed touchdown passes to Cole Dodson (14-yards) and Malik Johnson (44-yards) to score both of The Woodlands’ touchdowns on the night.
D’Anthony Simms score the Bearkats only touchdown on the night with 1-yard run late in the 3rd quarter.
The Woodlands moves to 5-2 overall and 5-0 in district play. The Highlanders play Conroe (2-4 overall, 1-3 in district) next Friday night at Moorhead Stadium. Conroe was on their bye week this week.
Klein falls to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in district play. The Bearkats play Klein Collins (7-0 overall, 5-0 in district) next Friday night at Klein Memorial Stadium. Klein Collins was a 56-14 winner over Klein Cain on Friday.
