In a game highlighted by a steady down pour, The Sealy Tigers remained unbeaten by besting the El Campo Ricebirds Friday night by a score of 34-14.
The Tigers recorded the firsts two scores of the night on runs by senior running back Ivan Bolden. Bolden scored form 30 yards out less than three minutes into the game and then scored from 58 yards out less than two minutes later and the Tigers led 14-0 not even half way through the first quarter.
El Campo would cut the lead to 14-7 on an 8-yard TD run from Dontrell Dove late in the first quarter.
Sealy would answer back, this time on a 5-yard run from Draper Parker to extend the lead to 21-7 early in the 2nd quarter. Bolden added his 3rd touchdown of the night on a 28 yard run mid-way through the 2nd quarter.
El Campo would score on a 1-yard Charles Shorter run just before the half.
And then the rains intensified throughout half time and into the second half. Both offenses sputtered throughout the second half, before Sealy’s Garrett Zaskoda hit Draper Parker for a 5-yard touchdown pass with 1:42 remaining in the game.
The Sealy Tigers move to 7-0 on the season and 3-0 in district play. This is the first time the Tigers have opened a season 7-0 since 2009. The Tigers travel to Bay City next Friday night to take on the Bay City Blackcats.
The El Campo Ricebirds fall to 3-5 on the season and 1-3 in district play. The five losses so far this season are the most by El Campo in a single season since they went 4-6 in 2005.The 14 points scored in this game are the fewest the Ricebirds have scored in a game this year. The Ricebirds are on a bye week next week before hosting Bay City in two weeks.
