Katy Wins 7th Consecutive Game; Closes in on 10th Consecutive District Crown

The Seven Lakes Spartans appeared to have a chance early in the game. The Spartans chose to kick to Tigers to start the game after winning the coin toss. The Spartans held the Tigers to a 3 and out and the ensuing punt traveled only 1 yard putting Seven Lakes in business at the Katy 35-yard line. The Spartans faced a 4th and 3 and came up 1 yard short, turning the ball over on downs to the Tigers at the 26-yard line.

The Katy Tigers then drove 74 yards in 8 plays punctuated by a 1-yard touchdown run from Deondrick Glass with 5:28 remaining in the 1st quarter. With the successful point after, The Tigers led 7-0.

The score would be the first of three Katy scores in a span of less than a minute in a half. Following a Spartan fumble, Bronson McClelland hit Jordan Patrick for an 18-yard touchdown pass and then a bad snap on a Spartan punt attempt from the end zone resulted in the ball rolling out of the back of the end zone for a safety.

The Tigers lead 16-0 with 4:01 left in the first quarter.

Kaleb Cue would add a 28-yard field goal, McClelland would hit Patrick again for a touchdown and Glass score on another short touchdown run, and Katy led 33-0 with 5:36 remaining in the 2nd quarter.

The Spartans would get on the board when John Harrington (in the injured Michael Batton) hit Jaden Embra for a 3-yard touchdown pass. With the failed point after, the Tigers lead was cut to 33-6 with 17 seconds remaining in the 1st half.

Jiannia Angulo added a 43-yad punt return for a touchdown, Deondrick Glass added a 36-yard touchdown run, and Sherman Smith added 2 touchdown runs (20-yards and 75-yards) and Seven Lakes added a 73-yard touchdown run from Milton Jones to make the final score Katy 61, Seven Lakes 13.

The Katy Tigers produced 516 yards total offense to the Seven Lakes Spartans 253 yards.

The leading statistical players for the Tigers were Deondrick Glass (26 carries for 165 yards and 3 TDs), Bronson McClelland (7-12 passing for 122 yards and 2 TDs) and John Patrick (5 receptions for 71 yards and 2 TDs). The leading statistical players for the Spartans were Milton Jones (10 carries for 99 yards an 1 TDs, Michael Batton (9-18 passing for 109 yards), and John Harrington (4 receptions for 46 yards).

The Tigers move to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in district play. The Tigers have now won 6 consecutive games and are the favorite to win their 10th consecutive district title.  The Tigers host the Cinco Ranch Cougars (2-5, 2-1) next Friday at Legacy Stadium.

The Spartans fall to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in district play. The Spartans host the Mayde Creek Rams (3-4, 0-4) next Friday night at Rhodes Stadium.
