Tony's Ten

A quick hit list of ten games in each classification I’ll be keeping an eye on for Week 9.

6A

  • A two for one in 1-6A. El Paso Franklin (5-2, 2-0) vs. El Paso Montwood (3-4,1-1) AND El Paso Pebble Hills (5-2, 2-0) vs. El Paso Americas (4-3, 1-1) – The two games should go a long way to defining the playoff picture in 1-6A.
  • Another two for one, this time in 2-6A. Midland Lee (6-1, 2-0) vs. Amarillo Tascosa (4-3, 1-1) AND Odessa Permian (5-2, 2-0) vs. Midland (3-4, 1-1) – The two games should go a long way to defining the playoff picture in 2-6A.
  • And another two for one, this time in 7-6A. Cedar Hill (6-1, 3-1) vs. South Grand Prairie (4-3, 3-1) AND DeSoto (6-1, 3-1) vs. Mansfield Summit (4-2, 3-1) – With a five team log jam at 3-1 atop the district, these games should start thinning out the contenders.
  • Cy Ranch (7-0, 5-0) vs. Cy Woods (6-2, 5-1) – The winner of this game clinches a playoff berth and stays in contention for the 14-6A title.
  • Aldine Davis (5-2, 3-1) vs. Aldine Eisenhower (4-3, 3-1) – The winner of this game will have the inside track for 2nd playoff spot in 16-6A.
  • Katy Taylor (5-3, 3-1) vs. Tompkins (7-1, 3-1) – The winner of this game will have the inside track for the 2nd playoff spot in 19-6A.
  • North Shore (7-0, 4-0) vs. West Brook (6-1, 4-0) – The winner of this game will likely win the 21-6A title.
  • Atascocita (6-1, 5-0) vs. Summer Creek (5-2, 5-0) – The winner of this game will likely win the 22-6A title.
  • Buda Hays (7-0, 5-0) vs. Westlake (6-1, 5-0) – The winner of this game will likely win the 25-6A title.
  • La Joya (6-1, 3-1) vs. PSJA North (4-3, 3-1) – The winner of this game will be in sole possession of second place in 30-6A while the loser will have to battle to make the playoffs.
  • Brownsville Hanna (5-1, 2-0) vs. San Benito (4-3, 2-0) – The winner of this game will likely win the 32-6A title.

5A

  • El Paso Eastwood (4-3, 2-0) vs. El Paso Chapin (3-4, 2-0) – The last two district unbeatens face off with the district 1-5AD2 title likely being decided.
  • Lancaster (4-2, 4-0) vs. Mansfield Timberview (4-3, 3-1) – Lancaster needs this win to set up a week 10 face off with Highland Park for the district title. With both teams likely in the playoffs, this game will establish relative seeding between the two teams.
  • Tyler (4-2, 3-0) vs. McKinney North (6-2, 3-1) – Tyler needs this win to set up a week 10 face off with Mesquite Poteet for the district title. With both teams likely in the playoffs, this game will establish relative seeding between the two teams.
  • Lufkin (6-1, 4-0) vs. Magnolia West (6-1, 4-0) – With previous wins over College Station, Magnolia, and Tomball, a Lufkin win would all but clinch the district title for the Panthers. A Magnolia West win would make them the favorite to win the district title though they still have to play College Station in Week 11.
  • Port Arthur Memorial (6-1, 3-1) vs. Kingwood Park (4-3, 3-1) – These two teams are two of the three teams currently tied for 2nd place in 9-5AD1. The winner still needs to play the third team (Houston Austin) in either Week 10 or Week 11, but this game will go a long way to determining the ordering in this district.
  • Dripping Springs (6-1, 4-0) vs. Seguin (5-2, 4-0) – A Dripping Springs win will all but clinch the district 12-5AD1 title. A Sequin win would move them into sole possession of 1st place but they still need to play LBJ in Week 11.
  • San Antonio Southwest (6-1, 3-0) vs. San Antonio Harlandale (5-2, 2-1) – If Southwest wins this game, they become the prohibitive favorite to win 14-5AD1 needing a Week 10 win over Harlan to clinch the district title. If Harlandale wins, there could be a four-way tie for first place between these two teams, Harlan and Laredo Martin.
  • Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial (7-0, 5-0) vs. Corpus Christi Miller (6-1, 4-1) – With a win in this game Veterans Memorial takes a two-game lead in 15-5AD1 with two games to play. A Miller win moves them into tie with Veterans Memorial for the district lead (and they obviously would hold the tie-breaker).
  • Mission Memorial (6-1, 6-0) vs. Brownsville Pace (6-1, 6-0) – The winner of this game likely wins the 16-5AD1 title.
  • Kerrville Tivy (6-1, 4-0) vs. Alamo Heights (6-1, 4-0) – Two of the teams remaining unbeaten in 14-5AD2 play face off this week. The winner of this game will likely play Medina Valley for the district title.

  • Pleasant Grove (6-2, 2-0) vs. Liberty Eylau (2-5, 1-0) – With a win Pleasant Grove clinches the 6-4AD2 title. A Liberty-Eylau win wouldn’t clinch the title but would make them the clear favorite to win district.

Simply put I am a fan of Texas high school football. I attend as many high school football games as I can - 82 games in 2017, 86 games in 2018, 76 games in 2019. I also have some limited computer skills and I use those to provide information to the #txhsfb community. I am always looking for new ways to provide information to the #txhsfb community. If you have ideas and suggestions, tag or DM me on Twitter.
