Tomball Memorial Clinches Playoff Berth, Sets Season Record for Wins in 56-14 Victory over Cy Park
The Tomball Memorial Wildcats will be going to the UIL playoffs for the second time in their seven-year history following Thursday night’s 56-14 win over the Cy Park Tigers. The Wildcats also recorded their seventh win of the season which breaks the team’s record for wins in a single season set when they last went to the playoffs in 2013 posting a 6-5 overall record.
The game was close at the half with the Wildcats leading 21-14. In a span of 20 seconds early in the quarter, the Wildcats pushed the lead to 21 and never looked back. The Wildcats open the 2nd half with a 6-play 71-yard drive that resulted in a 28-yard touchdown run from Trey Robertson with 9:58 remaining in the 3rd quarter. The Cy Park Tigers fumble the ensuing kickoff and it was recovered by the Wildcats at the Cy Park 32-yard line. On the next play, the Wildcats ran a reserve pass and Jorden Gidry hit Logan Kyle for a 32-yard touchdown pass with 9:38 remaining in the 3rd qauter.
The Wildcats would add three touchdowns in the 4th quarter to salt the victory and make the Wildcats play off bound. Christian Lovick recorded 2 rushing touchdowns (44-yards and 20-yards) and Trey Robertson added a 3-yard rushing touchdown to make the final score 56-14.
After Tomball Memorial jumped out to 14-0 lead in the first quarter on 79-yard Christian Galban to Logan Kyle 79-yard touchdown pass and a 7-yard touchdown run from Jorden Gidrey, Cy Park battled back in the second quarter to tie the game at 14 behind touchdown runs from Sergio Small (4 yards) and Cameron (39 yards). Christian Galban once gain hooked up with Kyle Logan for a touchdown pass, this time from 33 yards out, to give the Wildcats the lead at the half 21-14.
The Wildcats leading rusher on the night was Christian Lovick who recorded 120 yards on 11 carries with 2 touchdowns. Chandler Galban was 8 for 16 passing for 206 yards and 2 touchdowns. 3 of Logan Kyle’s 4 receptions where for touchdowns as he amassed 161 yards receiving.
Tomball Memorial moves to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in district play. The Wildcats host Cy Springs (1-7, 1-6) next Friday before wrapping up the season against Cy Ranch (7-0, 5-0) on Thursday, 11/8 from Cy Fair FCU Stadium.
Cy Park falls to 0-8 overall and 0-6 in district play. The Tigers play Langham Creek (3-4, 3-2) next Friday before wrapping up the season against Bridgeland (2-6, 1-5) on Friday, 11/9. Both games will be played at Cy Fair FCU Stadium.
