When the state rebate and $7,500 federal tax credit are combined, qualified automobiles can receive a $10,000 discount under the “MI Vehicle Rebate” a $2,500 Electronic Vehicle Rebate program. This incentive encourages people to choose electric and hybrid cars and supports Michigan’s objective of cleaner cars.

The whole $2,500 state refund applies to General Motors, Stellantis, and Ford Motor Company vehicles made in union-protected factories. BEVs get a $2,000 discount, while union-made gas-powered vehicles get $1,500. Gas-powered vehicles built recently are eligible for a $1,000 refund.

Many stakeholders, including the Michigan Automobile Dealers Association, support the “MI Vehicle Rebate” scheme. Association president Cliff Cicotte sees the program as an opportunity to make advanced vehicle technology more available to Michigan residents and boost the economy.
