One-On-One With Allen Academy’s Adrian Adams

Tony had a chance to discuss participation and tradition with Adrian Adams at the Allen Academy’s Midnight madness.

Tony: How’s it going coach?
Coach Adams: It’s going well. It’s football season.

Tony: The first thing I noticed was that participation numbers are up.
Coach Adams: The numbers are up from nine to sixteen. We have about six incoming freshmen and added two juniors as well. We only lost one from last year.

Tony: What do you contribute the increase in numbers to?
Coach Adams: Last season (2018) set the tone for what we are trying to do in the program. Keep the tradition going that was already established before I got here. I think we kind of opened some eyes of people in the area in different cities that want to come out and contribute to the football team. With a big freshman class, that’s always good that adds to the numbers. And then adding a couple of kids that played some other sports that’s a bonus for us.

Tony: Speaking of tradition, you have a lot of your alumni out here (playing in the alumni touch football game). What role do they play in creating the environment that encourages kids to come out and play.
Coach Adams: It’s the tradition part. Before I got here, Allen Academy always made deep playoff runs and won state I think in 2014. Just being around the program and even coming out tonight, these guys know who these guys are on the field and our players are just trying to live up to that tradition.

Simply put I am a fan of Texas high school football. I attend as many high school football games as I can - 82 games in 2017, 86 games in 2018, 76 games in 2019. I also have some limited computer skills and I use those to provide information to the #txhsfb community. I am always looking for new ways to provide information to the #txhsfb community. If you have ideas and suggestions, tag or DM me on Twitter.
