West Hardin Players Interviewed
Keaton Castilaw, Russell Payne, Isaac Murphy, and Jake Strahan.

Tony caught up with four seniors from the West Hardin Oilers at their practice on Wednesday, August 7, 2019.

Tony: The Oilers made the playoffs for the first time in several years last year. What was that like, what does that mean for the community?
Russell Payne: It means a whole lot. Coming from a small town you get lots of support. Everybody is like family so everybody wants you do well.
Isaac Murphy: Everybody shows up on Friday night now to see us win and that’s what we are going to try to give them.
Jake Strahan: It’s gets them really excited. It feels like they are all around. They are going for you the whole time. There’s not a better feeling when you go to the playoffs than to hear everybody cheering for you. And they are all close to you. You know everybody it really helps.
Keaton Castilaw: It was big. We hadn’t made the playoffs in like the last 7 years. Just getting everybody out there for a playoff game, it was huge.

Tony: What your expectation for the team this year?
Russell Payne: Win the district.
Isaac Murphy: Hopefully win the district and make the playoffs again.
Jake Strahan: Making it higher than the 4th seed and making a push in the playoffs.
Keaton Castilaw: We should be pretty good this year. I expect to win district. I expect to beat people we haven’t beaten in the past and be really good.

Tony: Personal goals?
Russell Payne: 15 sacks.
Isaac Murphy: Try to break my personal tackle record which is 122.
Jake Strahan: Not really. I really just want the team to win and I’ll do my part. They are going to do their part. How many ever goals we complete. If we make the playoffs, we try to win the 1st round, and then win the 2nd round and go from there.
Keaton Castilaw: Just do whatever I can to help the team win.

Simply put I am a fan of Texas high school football. I attend as many high school football games as I can - 82 games in 2017, 86 games in 2018, 76 games in 2019. I also have some limited computer skills and I use those to provide information to the #txhsfb community. I am always looking for new ways to provide information to the #txhsfb community.
