Tony caught up with the Pasadena Dobie Longhorns’ Kevin Berneathy during their practice on Thursday, August 15, 2019.

Tony: Second year here at Dobie. Talk about what it meant to the program making the playoffs last year for the first time in a few years.
Coach Berneathy: I think that it showed our kids that when you work hard, you get rewarded. I guess I reward was North Shore. We got to go out there and play against the best. I feel like our kids went out there, and you know, didn’t bow down and really fought hard. Our kids learned that if you put in work, you work hard, it’s not always being comfortable, the reward is going to be there. The year before I got here they won two games. I guess they didn’t really know what to expect. We just came in here. I got to hire a bunch of good coaches that really care about kids and the development of kids. That’s what we are all about. We are in the kid business. All that combined and them learning to trust us was big. We told them put in the work and you’ll get rewarded. To have that pay off gained a lot of trust.

Tony: What are the expectations this year? What’s the next step?
Coach Berneathy: Every day we talk about just getting better. Everybody wants to be 10 and 0. That is definitely our goal. We want to be 1 and 0. You have to be 1 and 0 before you go 2 and 0. There are a lot a really good, talented teams on our schedule. Our goal is just to win every day. If you do that, you hope it works enough to pay off.

Simply put I am a fan of Texas high school football. I attend as many high school football games as I can - 82 games in 2017, 86 games in 2018, 76 games in 2019. I also have some limited computer skills and I use those to provide information to the #txhsfb community. I am always looking for new ways to provide information to the #txhsfb community. If you have ideas and suggestions, tag or DM me on Twitter.
