The second Claude Mathis era at DeSoto High School got off to a great start on Friday night as the Eagles got out to a quick start on their way to a 35-14 win over Odessa Permian.
DeSoto scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and never looked back with Mathis back on the Eagles’ sidelines for the first time since he left for the college ranks after the 2014 season.
DeSoto’s Timmie Jennings led the team with 72 rushing yards. Quarterback Samari Collier completed 8-of-14 passes for 154 yards and added 25 yards on the ground. DeSoto locked up Permian’s passing game as their 245 yards of total offense all came on the ground.
