As the scoreboard switched over to the fourth quarter in Dripping Springs on Friday night, coach Les Goad and the Buda Hays Rebels knew they had some work to do to overcome an 11-point deficit if they wanted to start their season 2-0.
On the road with their backs against the wall, the Rebels delivered, rattling off 12 unanswered points. The defense made several key stops, they got some help from punter Thomas Skrovan and the offense scored the final two touchdowns needed to take the win.
Both teams got most of their work done on the ground as they only combined for 82 total passing yards, but Dripping Spring quarterback Preston Alford had 115 rushing yards, leading both teams.
For Hays, Bobby Green had nine rushes for 71 yards and Xavier Green added 61 rishing yards.
The Hays Rebels will be back on the road after their bye week looking to go 3-0 as they face fellow unbeaten Austin Anderson Trojans on September 19. The Dripping Springs Tigers will look to go 2-1 next Friday against the 0-2 New Braunfels Canyon Cougars.
