Lockhart Lions would play their Home Opener this past Friday as the Ducks of Taylor, Texas flew into Lions Stadium. When the game was over the Ducks would have to take the Busses home as the Lockhart Lions Defense would continue to dominate as the Lockhart Lion Defense gets their 2nd shutout in a row.

After last weeks shutout of Austin Travis at House Park. The Lockhart Lions Defense was on full display much to the delight of the hometown crowd while registering their 2nd shutout in a row. The Ducks would receive the opening Kickoff and run a reverse that would be run back for a 30-yard return. What seemed to give the Taylor Ducks a positive start turned into an offensive struggle to move the ball against the Stingy Defense of the Lockhart Lions. A struggle that would last throughout the night.

The Ducks would start the game at their own 45 before their drive would stall at the 39 in Lockhart Territory before having to punt the ball away. After the return the Lions would get their first possession of the night and would go 3 and out and were forced to punt the ball away. The first turnover of the game would come on the punt as the Duck returner would muff the punt and Lockhart Lion  Daetron Ellison would recover the fumble at the 22 yard line in Duck territory. Four plays later Lockhart would take advantage of the turnover by the Ducks as Lion RB Noah Garcia would score from 1 yard out and with the extra point by Jaime-Jaimes good. Lockhart would take the lead 7-0 with 6:36 left to go in the 1st.

After a 3 and out in their next possession the Ducks would have to punt the ball away. From their own 27 yard line Lockhart would go 73 yards on 9 plays taking 4:36 off the clock ending the drive with a 37 yard TD Pass from Stoney Mcguire to Noah Garcia. The extra point by Eduardo Ponce would split the uprights and with 11:52 left in the 1st half Lockhart Lions 14 Taylor Ducks 0.

Both defenses would force punts on their next possessions and with 6:44 Taylor Ducks QB Michael Schneider who was pressured all night long would throw his 1st of 2 interceptions of the night as Sr Caleb Jennings would pick the pass off and return it across midfield all the way to the Taylor 27. After a Block in the Back penalty on the Lions the ball would be placed at the Taylor 42 yard line. The Lions would take the second turnover by the Ducks and turn into points as RB Noah Garcia would cross the goal line on a 6 yard TD run and after the successful extra point kick by Jaimes-Jaimes the Lions would extend their lead 21-0 and that’s how the first half would end.

The second half would begin with both teams going 3 and out. Lockhart would score on their next possession on an 11 yard TD Pass from McGuire to Jayden Garza. After the extra point try by Eduardo Ponce the Lions would lead 28-0. Between both teams, there would be three straight 3 and out drives with Taylor have 2 of the 3 drives. The second of their 3 and out possessions would end with another interception thrown by Taylor QB Schneider as Jr DK White would pick the pass and the Lockhart Lions would take possession on their own 26 yard line as the 3rd quarter would come to an end.

On the Lions 1st drive of the 4th Quarter the Lions would go 74 yards on 10 plays ending on a 10 yard run by Jordan Garcia and after the Eduardo Extra point try the Lions would score their last points of the night and would eventually finish out the game defeating the Taylor Ducks 35-0.

Just as the Lockhart Lions did last week against the Travis Rebels. The Lions would dominate on both sides of the ball. The Lockhart Lions would outrun the Taylor Ducks as the Lions had 43 carries for 262 yards and 3 touchdowns while the Ducks would have 21 carries for 41 yards. Stoney McGuire would go 8 of 14 for 80 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Lions while Michael Schneider would go 4 of 12 for 12 yards 0 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Lockhart Lions would outgain Taylor in offense with 340 total yards to the Ducks 53 total yards. When asked about how pleased he was with his Lockhart Lions Offense Coach Moebes says “Coach Gilbert and our offensive staff are doing a tremendous job in coaching.” Coach Moebes would also add “We are far from where we need to be but I’m really pleased on how we are running the football.”
