The Manvel Mavericks avenged their 2018 loss to the Crosby Cougars with a 39-27 win on Thursday night.
As has become a bit of a calling card for the Mavericks, they found the endzone early, scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter. By the half, the Mavericks had a 27-13 lead, but Crosby looked to rally in the third, scoring two touchdowns.
Unfortunately for Crosby, while they found the endzone on offense, they were unable to keep Manvel from scoring 12 more points.
Senior quarterback Tucker Yarbrough was 19 of 33 for 308 yards and four touchdowns. His top targets were senior Jalen Paxton, who had five receptions for 126 yards. Junior Jalen Walthall hauled in three touchdown catches and had 104 receiving yards.
Senior running back Donovan Eaglin had a breakout game with 142 yards and a touchdown.
Crosby didn’t find much success through the air, but quarterback Deniquez Dunn had one passing touchdown and two on the ground. He rushed for 191 yards. He has 261 rushing yards through two games.
Crosby is now 0-2 on the season. They have a bye this week and will be back in action on September 20 against West Orange-Stark. Manvel takes their unbeaten record into a home game on Thursday night against the Sharpstown Apollos.
