The Manvel Mavericks finished the non-district portion of their schedule on Thursday night with a 76-0 win over the Sharpstown Apollos.
In classic Maverick fashion, Manvel got off to a quick start with 62 unanswered points in the first half before adding 14 more points in the second half. When the offense wasn’t marching into the endzone, the Manvel defense clamped down on the Apollos and kept them from reaching paydirt all game.
The defense was led by John Abernathy, who had two sacks. Brian Wilturner also got into the backfield often. On his five tackles, four were for a loss.
Offensively, the Mavericks were able to get it done on the ground and through the air. Senior quarterback was 11 of 14 for 192 yards and five touchdowns. Junior quarterback Kyler Williams also got into the game for a few snaps and added a touchdown.
Caleb Jordan led all rushers for 40 yards and a touchdown, and junior receiver Dayvon Henderson led the receiving corps. with 56 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore Malachi McLean had 80 all-purpose yards.
Manvel begins district play next Friday on the roadagainst the Fort Bend Marshall Buffalos, who are also 3-0, and fresh off a 59-0 win over Milby. Sharpstown will look for their first win of the season against Sterling, who is 2-2 on the season.
