Gonzales Celebrates Homecoming with 43-21 Win Over Hondo

It was Homecoming night in Gonzales and the Apaches gave the home crowd a win to celebrate.

Gonzales cracked the scoreboard first on a 6-yard run from Arbreyon Dora to give the Apaches a 7-0 lead with 6:32 left in the first quarter.

Hondo answered on the next drive with a 54-yard touchdown pass from Brandon Garcia to Trey Dickens to knot the game at 7 with 4:35 left in the 1st.


On the next drive, Heath Henke cashed in from 7 yards out to give the lead back to the Apaches 14-7 with 2:49 left in the 1st quarter.
After the Apache forced an Owl punt, Hondo’s Jayden Gallardo returned an interception 34 yards to tie the score at 14 with 11:49 left in the 1st half.

On the next drive, Arbreyon Dora gave the lead back to the Apaches on a 14-yard touchdown run to make the score 21-14 with 7:47 left in the half.

At the start of the 3rd quarter, Gonzales forced a three an out from the Owls and took advantage of a short field following a 19-yard punt. The Apaches started the drive from the Owl 44. On the 3rd play of the drive, Dillen Ramos raced in from 32 yards out for the touchdown. The Apaches converted a two-point conversion to make the score Gonzales 29, Hondo 14 with 7:32 left in the 3rd.

Gonzales next two drives would result in Heath Henke touchdown runs (13 yards and 2 yards) to push the Apache lead to 43-14 with 9:27 remaining in the game.

Hondo would add a late Brandon Garcia 1-yard touchdown run to make the final score 43-21.

Gonzales moves to 4-1 on the season. The Apaches are open next week before opening district play in two weeks against Pleasanton. Pleasanton is 5-0 on the season and plays Kingsville King next week.

Hondo falls to 1-4 on the season. The Owls are also open next week before opening district play in two weeks against. Devine is 1-4 on the season.
