2021 Running Backs

L.J. Butler of Wagner will once again be the returning rushing leader in the area after putting up 2,353 yards and 30 touchdowns for the 5A Division I state semifinalist. Butler is just shy of 5,000 career rushing yards and enters his senior season with 68 rushing touchdowns.
A.J. McDade was a huge part of Harlan’s 12-1 season. McDade finished his junior season with 1,992 yards and 22 touchdowns. In two seasons, McDade has rushed for 2,975 yards and 34 touchdowns.
Already offered by USC and Colorado with more coming soon, Converse Judson’s De’Anthony Lewis rushed for 1,864 yards and 27 touchdowns in a breakout campaign.
Leading a few quarterbacks who put up fantastic yards on the ground, Brandeis’ Jordan Batlles led them all with 1,821 yards and 26 scores. Max DiDomenico of Schertz Clemens rushed for 1,353 yards and 19 touchdowns.
Another stat stuffer putting up huge career numbers is Burbank’s Matthew Salazar. Salazar has rushed for 2,900 yards and 27 touchdowns in three years at Burbank and has a 313-yard and four-touchdown game as a junior to his credit. Salazar had another pair of 200-yard games to his credit as a junior after rushing for 100 or more yards in seven straight games as a sophomore. Salazar has 14 100-yard games to his credit for the Bulldogs.
Staying in the city, Southside’s Caleb Camarillo is another dynamic playmaker for the upstart Cardinals.

Marques Washington of Seguin and Andre Mitchell of Southwest are similar in stature and output. Washington rushed for 1,212 yards and 19 scores, while Mitchell put up 1,128 yards and 14 scores to earn All-District honors.
Jean Sims went over 1,000 yards as well as being a defensive standout for Region IV finalist Navarro. The Panthers will lose its top two leading rushers with Sims looking to be the next in line.
