Cobbs verbally commits to Wyoming

Wagner 2020 WR Joshua Cobbs committed to Wyoming on Thursday.

Cobbs caught 25 touchdown passes during his Wagner career, with 17 of them coming in 2019 as a senior on just 27 receptions for the season.

The Express-News Sub-6A All-Area and First Team 13-5A Division I All-District performer caught 27 passes for 661 yards, an average of 24.5 yards per catch. Wagner only completed 48 passes on the season with 23 going for touchdowns.

Cobbs, at 6’4, 205-pound athletic target who catches anything in his zip code, also had offers from Army, Navy, and what was likely a non-committable offer from UNLV under a previous coaching staff.

Cibolo Steele 2020 RB De’Quavion Thomas and 2021 QB Wyatt Begeal both announced verbal commitments on Twitter.

Thomas, who held a handful of FBS offers coming out of his sophomore season before his last two seasons were derailed by injury, has opted for the junior college route by committing to Navarro College. As a backup to UTSA running back Brenden Brady, Thomas rushed for 492 yards and seven touchdowns. Since his early offers, most of the coaching staffs from those programs have moved on.

As a senior, Thomas returned after missing the four first games to rush for 703 yards and 13 touchdowns. Thomas twice rushed for four touchdowns in a loss to Converse Judson and a victory over New Braunfels.

Begeal, the three-year starter at quarterback for Cibolo Steele, has committed to Arkansas State.

Begeal recently visited the Arkansas State campus before committing a few days later. Begeal had FBS offers from Rice and Texas State. Over the past three seasons, Begeal has thrown for 5,379 yards and 46 touchdowns.

In an All-District performance as a junior while leading the Knights to the playoffs in 6A Division II, Begeal threw for 2,278 yards and 20 touchdowns while picking up eight of his 20 career rushing touchdowns.

  • Smithson Valley 2020 ATH Greg Eggleston Jr. verbally committed to West Texas A&M on Thursday. Eggleston accounted for over 1,600 yards from scrimmage and 15 touchdowns as a senior. Multi-faceted, Eggleston could play running back, wide receiver, or defensive back comfortably at the next level.
  • O’Connor 2020 CB J’Onta Waller has verbally committed to Northern Colorado. Waller was a First Team All-District selection in 28-6A as a junior and senior for the Panthers.
  • Converse Judson 2020 CB Xavier Spencer (6’2/185) has received his first FBS offer from Texas El-Paso. Spencer recorded 71 tackles and six tackles for loss as a senior in an All-District performance.
  • Frank Wilson IV, a 2020 DB from Brandeis, said on his Twitter that he will sign on National Signing Day. Without confirmation, guesses are he will be signing with McNeese State to play for his father Frank Wilson. Wilson IV was previously committed to UTSA to play for his father before the university severed ties with Wilson in December.
