Raymondville Bearkats (4-4, 2-2) vs Port Isabel Tarpons (5-3, 2-2)
Friday November 6 – 7:30pm
Bearkat Stadium – Raymondville, Texas

Last meeting:
2014 – Raymondville-6 Port Isabel-0

Raymondville was in the game last week against Rio Hondo for three quarters, but miscues and turnovers would prove to be costly as they lost the game 35-21. Despite the loss, the offense seems to be clicking again like it was early in the year and that is good news for Bearkat fans.

Port Isabel is coming off of a 36-14 loss to Orange Grove and has been alternating wins and losses after the opening the season with three straight wins. Not a good sign for them as they head into the playoffs.

Raymondville is led by QB Daniel Gutierrez, RB Burt Najera and WR’s David Marroquin and Sergio Gonzales Jr. Gutierrez has 775 yards passing, 9 touchdowns and 5 interceptions and also has 362 yards rushing with 5 rushing touchdowns. Najera has 658 yards rushing on the year with 9 touchdowns and is averaging 5.7 yards per carry. Marroquin has been a dual threat for the Bearkats, catching and running the ball very well for them. He has 547 yards rushing with 5 rushing touchdowns and 254 yards receiving with another 5 receiving touchdowns. Gonzales was a solid part of the game plan last week and is looking to build on that this week as the Bearkats prepare for the playoffs. He has 248 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns on the year.

Port Isabel is a run heavy team that uses multiple players at the quarterback position in their offensive scheme. Denilson Lozano and Omar Silva have combined for 274 passing yards, 5 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Silva also has 907 yards rushing, 9 rushing touchdowns and is averaging 6.7 yards per carry. RB’s Carlos Orduna and Ivan Gonzalez have solidified the run game and have a combined 541 rushing yards, 5 touchdowns and they are both averaging 5.8 yards per carry on the year.

The Bearkats are scoring 28 points per game and the Tarpons are putting up an average of just under 23 points per game.

While both of these teams would like to get a win before heading into post season play, only one team can be victorious. Unlike last year, more points will be scored in this game and I expect this one to be close throughout the entire game. A turnover or defensive stop may be the difference in this game.
