KATY – The Katy Tigers recorded another shutout win.

We could just end the recap right there if we wanted to.

On a rainy Saturday morning, the Katy Tigers defense notched their seventh shutout of the season, defeating Cinco Ranch 24-0 in route to another district championship.

The district championship is also Katy’s seventh straight. But looking at the numbers, this one might be the most impressive. Not only did Katy record their fourth straight shutout this weekend, but they finish the season allowing a grand total of 18 points all year.

After a defensive first quarter with the game tied 0-0, Katy dialed up a bit of trickery with wide receiver Tony Mullins throwing a 34-yard touchdown pass to fullback Kyle Williams for the early 7-0 lead.

The Katy Tigers would tack on a field goal before halftime to go into the locker room up 10-0.

Katy would add two more scores in the second half thanks to Deondrick Glass and Kyle Williams’ second touchdown of the game, to push the score to 24-0, which would hold as the final.

Cinco Ranch came into this game not only undefeated, but averaging over 32 points a game. The Cougars wound up being completely shutdown and held to 209 total yards.

So the question that begs to be answered…is this the best defense Katy’s ever had?

“I definitely believe so just because I’m that confident in our defense,” Collin Wilder told Adam Coleman after his third quarter interception led to another Katy touchdown. “I believe this is the best defense we’ve ever had just because of how hard we work, how hard we’ve been working and how much we want to get better still.”

The thought that Katy can get better is scary as hell. And the fact that the Tigers aren’t even fully healthy going into the playoffs should worry all of Class 6A Division II.
