West Trojans (9-1) vs. Troy Trojans (8-2)
Saturday, November 14, 7 p.m.
Waco ISD Stadium – Waco, Texas
Two Trojan football powers clash when West and Trojan meet in Class 3A Division I bi-district action. The West Trojans won the second seed in District 9-3A, while Troy Trojans took third in District 10-3A.
West rested with an open date on the final weekend of regular season competition. Meanwhile, Troy went on a rampage against Lago Vista with a 46-6 triumph.
“The bye week gave us a bunch of time to rest some guys, but also the week off makes you a little hungry,” West head coach David Woodard told the Waco Tribune-Herald. “The kids are excited to get going.”
Quarterback Elijah Saldana passed for 140 yards and three touchdowns in the win over the Vikings. Garett Qualey led the Trojan ground game with 160 yards on 19 carries and two scores.
Qualey drives Troy’s run-oriented offense. This season, the senior running back gained 1,562 yards and scored 15 touchdowns.
“They’re a hard-nosed football team,” Woodard commented to the Trib. “They line up with two tight ends, two running backs, and they come right at you.”
West concluded its regular season with a 28-21 win over Comanche on October 29. In that contest, quarterback Mason Tobola threw for 347 yards and four touchdowns. Bailey Horn paced the receiving corps with six catches for 91 yards and two touchdowns.
In 2015, Tobola completed 157-of-231 attempts for 2,646 yards and 28 touchdowns. Horn caught 54 passes for 1,058 yards and 18 touchdowns. Quentin Dancer, last spring’s 3A 100-meter state champion, brings a speed element to passing game and also serves as a kick return scoring threat.
