On Saturday, 12/5/20, the Conroe Covenant Cougars faced the Marble Falls Faith Academy Flames in a TAPPS Six-man Division 2 State Quarterfinal game at San Marcos Academy.
The fist quarter featured four lead changes and ended with Faith Academy touchdown to give the Flames a narrow 24-23 lead after one quarter of play.
The scoring pace slackened in the second quarter, but the lead changed hands three times including on a Covenant field goal as time expired in the first half to give the Cougars the lead 35-32 as the teams went to the locker rooms.
The lead changed hands three more times in the third quarter, but Faith Academy managed to score the final two touchdowns of the quarter to take a 56-43 lead into the final frame.
Covenant scored just 47 seconds into the fourth quarter to cut the Faith Academy lead to 56-51.
Following a Faith Academy turnover on downs, Covenant regained the lead 57-56 with 1:36 left in the game.
But the Flames struck quickly to recapture the lead scoring with 44 seconds remaining in the game to take a 62-57 lead.
Following a Covenant turnover on downs, Faith Academy kneeled the ball and ran out the clock to sure the quarterfinal win.
The Flames return to San Marcos Academy this Saturday, 12/12 at 6pm to face off against the Allen Academy Rams in a TAPPS Six-man Division 2 state semi-finals game for the right to advance to the state championship game the following Friday.
