Lockhart Lions (8-3) vs Vista Ridge Rangers (9-2)
Friday November 20 – 7:30 pm
Bobcat Stadium – San Marcos, Texas

After the Lions defense had a pretty impressive performance last week against Highlands, they get another solid test again tonight when they face off with Vista Ridge. Vista Ridge is coming off of a convincing 44-27 win over LBJ Austin and are looking to keep their season going.

Vista Ridge is led by QB Matthew Snow, RB Isaiah Vilaire and a group of talented receivers. Snow is a dual threat QB who has 1372 passing yards with 10 passing touchdowns to go along with 1816 rushing yards and 27 rushing touchdowns. Vilaire has 1331 rushing yards with 20 touchdowns and 213 receiving yards and 1 receiving touchdown.

The Rangers’ receiving trio of Tyler Harris, Jamil Pittman and Cody Wiliams have combined for a total of 908 receiving yards and 8 receiving touchdowns. The Ranger offense is averaging just under 44 points per game, while the defense is giving up just under 26 points per game.

Lockhart is led by the two headed rushing monster of Slash and Smash, better known as DJ Ellison and Stephon Houston. Ellison has 1713 rushing yards with 21 touchdowns and 55 receiving yards and 1 receiving touchdown on the year. Houston has 1387 rushing yards with 13 rushing touchdowns and 199 receiving yards with 1 receiving touchdown. Another contributor to the Lions success is RB Austin Garcia, who has 422 rushing yards with 7 rushing touchdowns and 22 receiving yards with 1 receiving touchdown.

The Lions are a run heavy team who rarely throw the ball, but they let QB Nick Sanchez air it out a couple of times in the win last week. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him throw some more passes tonight. The Lions offense is averaging 37 points per game, while the defense is giving up 25 points per game.

The Lions defense is going to have its hands full tonight, but the Ranger defense will have a difficult task of their own trying to slow down Houston and Ellison. If the Lockhart defense can have another solid outing, this game could get interesting.
