Rockwall-Heath tops Bridgeland to Advance to 6AD2 Region 2 Finals


The Rockwall-Heath Hawks took advantage of early Bridgeland Bears turnovers to jump out to 14-0 lead. After being forced to punt on the opening drive of the game, the punt struck a Bridgeland player and was recovered by the Hawks who followed the turnover with a 44-yard pass from Josh Hoover to Jordan Nabors to jump out to an early 7-0 lead with 9:48 remaining in the 1st quarter.

On the ensuing Bridgeland drive, the Bears fumbled the ball after a completed pass and Rockwall-Heath again pounced on the ball. The Hawks again converted the turnover into points on 9-yard pass from Hoover to Corban Cleveland to push the score to 14-0 Rockwall-Heath with 4:06 left in the 1st.

Bridgeland got on the board with 2:31 left in the 1st quarter on a 10-yard pass from Connor Weigman to Andrew Maleski to cut to the Hawks’ lead to 14-7.

Heath’s Jay Fair returned the following kickoff 92-yards for a touchdown. The PAT was blocked, and the Hawks led 20-7 with 2:18 left in the 1st.

Bridgeland chipped into the lead on a 21-yard field goal from Ethan Hajdik with 11:49 remaining in the first half to cut the Hawks’ lead to 20-10.

Rockwall-Heath expanded their lead to 27-10 on a 1-yard run from Preston Landis with 8:20 left in the half.

Bridgeland answered back with a 2-yard touchdown pass from Weigman to Dylan Goffney to cut the Heath lead to 27-17 with 5:34 left in the half.

Heath scored one more time before the half on Landis’ 2nd touchdown of the game, this time a 2-yard run with 3:49 remaining in the half to push the Hawk’s lead to 34-17.

Out of the half, the Hawks expanded their lead to 48-17 on a 24-yard run from Landis (8:03 3rd) and a 11-yard pass from Hoover to Jay Fair (5:28 3rd).

Bridgeland scored one last time on a 15-yard pass from Weigman to Jordan Wooden with 1:24 remaining in the 3rd to cut the Hawks lead to 48-24.

The game would go scoreless the remainder of the game and the Hawks’ advance to the 6AD2 Region 2 Finals to be played Saturday, 1/2, 3:15pm at Globe Life Park in Arlington.
