Aledo Tops Lovejoy to Advance to State Semifinals


It wasn’t easy for the Aledo Bearcats but the managed to top the Lovejoy Leopards 52-48 on a cold and rainy night from Globe Life in Arlington.

Aledo lead 14-10 after the first quarter but trailed 31-21 at the half and 38-28 after the third quarter.

The key sequence in the game came after an Aledo field goal cut the lead to 31-24. Aledo tied the game when the blocked a Lovejoy punt and returned it 50 yards to tie the game. Then after Lovejoy kicked a field goal, Aledo returned the kickoff 90-yards to take a 45-41 lead.

But the game was far from over. Aledo added a touchdown to pad their lead to 52-41 with 2:42 left in the game.

Lovejoy responded with a touchdown with 1:54 left in the game to cut the Aledo lead to 52-48.

Aledo recovered the onside kick attempt, gained a first down, and was able to run out the clock.
