In a game that featured nearly 1,300 yards of offense, 5 tied scores and 7 lead changes (including 2 in the final 1:40 of the game, the Fort Wirth Covenant Cavaliers defeated the Bulverde Bracken Christian Warriors 68-66 Thursday night at Waco ISD Stadium in the Sixman Division III title game to win their first TAPPS football title.
After Bracken Christian scored with 1:39 left in the game to take their first lead since midway through the 3rd quarter, the Cavaliers drove to the Warriors 12-yard line, a 3rd down sack left the Cavaliers facing 4th and goal from the 23-yard line.
Covenant lined up to attempt a 40-yard field goal and Bracken called time out to try to ice the kicker.
However, Rex Platt nailed the 40-yard attempt to give the Cavaliers the lead 68-66 with 0:33 left in the game.
Bracken Christian was able to drive to the Covenant 28 before the game ended.
