The Lorena Leopards beat the Brock Eagles 35-18 Thursday afternoon in the UIL 3AD1 Championship at AT&T Stadium to clinch their first football title since 1987 when the won an 8-7 affair against Refugio.
The win was the 200th career win for Head Coach Ray Biles with all wins coming at Lorena.
Lorena got on the board first on 1 2-yard run by Rhett Hanson just 2:42 into the game.
The Leopards extended their lead to 14-0 on a 54-yard rush 4:06 later.
Brock’s first score of the come at 11:55 left before halftime on a 1-yard run by Kutter Wilson. The PAT was missed and the score was Lorena 14, Brock 6.
The score remained 14-6 through the remainder of the first half.
Hanson recorded his 3rd touchdown of the game on a 1-yard run with 9:25 remaining in the 3rd quarter to push Lorena’s lead to 21-6.
Brock cut into the lead when Tyler Moody connected with Nathan Jones for a 4-yard TD. The 2-point conversion attempt was no good and Lorena lead 21-12.
Lorena scored the next two touchdowns to put the game out of reach. Ryne Able completed a 4-yard TD pass to Camden Brock and Hanson added his 4th TD of the game on another 1-yard run to push the Lorena lead to 34-12.
Brock added a late score on a 34-yard pass from Moddy to Elijah to produce the final score of 35-18.
Rhett Hanson was named the game’s Offensive MVP. Hanson had 196 yards on 28 carries for 4 TDs.
Baxter Bankston was named the game’s Defensive MVP. Bankston has 6 tackles, 3 tackles for loss and 1 sack.
