Texas State Loses Coach to the NFL

It was less than a month ago that Texas State head coach Everett Withers announced his new staff and already one of those staff members is gone.

Vince Oghobaase was set to be the Bobcats new defensive line coach but he has taken a job as the assistant defensive line coach for the San Francisco 49ers, according to a report by CoachingSearch.com. His Twitter bio, header-picture and even his location have been changed to indicate that he is now a member of the 49ers.

This will be Oghobaase’s third move this offseason, as he left his graduate assistant position at Ohio State to become the defensive line coach with Withers at James Madison. He then followed Withers when he left for Texas State. He spent two years as a graduate assistant at Ohio State, working with the defensive line. The two years before that he spent as a graduate assitant for Duke University, where he starred on the field as a defensive tackle from 2006 to 2009.

A Houston native, Oghobaase was an instrumental piece on the recruiting trail, as a number of recruits on the defensive side of the ball, including some that committed for the 2016 class, cited him as the coach they were in contact with for the Bobcats.

At this time, it is unclear if Texas State will hire from within or look outside the program to find Oghobaase’s replacement but we will keep you updated when more information is made available.
