Texas State Hires Antoine Smith

Two days after Vince Oghobaase left the Texas State Bobcats to take a position with the San Francisco 49ers, Texas State has found their new defensive line coach as they are set to hire Antoine Smith.

Smith worked alongside Texas State head coach, Everett Withers, for two seasons as Withers’ defensive line coach at James Madison University. Smith was fired in December, 2015, being replaced by Oghobaase. Now Smith is the one replacing Oghobaase.

Before going to James Madison, Smith spent three years as the defensive line coach at Holy Cross from 2011-2013. Before that, he was the defensive line coach at Miami (Ohio) University from 2009-2010. He arrived at Miami after a three-year stint as the defensive line coach at Youngstown State from 2006-2008. Before that, he was the defensive line coach at Lafayette from 2004-2005 and the defensive line coach for Maine in 2003.

Suffice it to say, Smith has a lot of experience coaching the defensive line at the collegiate level. After being fired by Withers just three months ago at his last job, it’s an interesting move to bring Smith to replace the man that initially replaced him.

Texas State has yet to announce the hiring of Smith but sources close to the program say it’s a, “done deal.” We’ll have an update as soon as more information is made available.
