Bobcats Lose Several Offensive Linemen

I have been able to confirm that four offensive linemen on the Texas State football team will not be returning to suit up for the Bobcats, while another one was critically injured during offseason workouts and is expected to be out for at least the spring.

Redshirt sophomore center, Jackson Hoskins, redshirt freshman guard, Kian Schoenborn, junior guard, Hayden Lambert, and redshirt freshman guard, Kanon Mackey, have all left the Bobcats’ football team for various reasons.

Last month, redshirt freshman offensive tackle, Will Copa, is believed to have had a seizure during weight training at Texas State. It is unclear at this time the extent of his condition but he was hospitalized for some time and is not expected to participate in spring practices.

Junior guard, Felix Romero, is still recovering from his torn ACL he suffered last season and is also expected to miss spring practice. He is expected to recover in time for next season.

Hoskins was set to be the team’s starting center last year before he was injured towards the beginning of the season. He is going to graduate from Texas State this summer and will not return to the team, “I graduate this summer and I tore my ACL last season,” said Hoskins. “I had surgery late in November so I wouldn’t be back and able to play fully until the end of the summer most likely, and at that time I would already be graduated.”

Schoenborn, a consistent starter at guard for the Bobcats last season, had some undisclosed family issues arise and he will be, “going back to Florida next semester.”

Lambert is reportedly set to graduate early and has already accepted a job. He could not be reached for comment.

Mackey transferred to Lamar while former head coach, Dennis Franchione, was still in charge. He also could not be reached for comment.

Last month, sophomore wide receiver, Kwamane Bowens, tweeted that he would also be stepping away from the team, making that five total players quitting this offseason. “Life just hit me and things have been crazy and I need to move on,” said Bowens. “I love those boys out there and I have a lot of support from them and all of the coaching staff, new and old.”

Hoskins, Schoenborn, Lambert and Mackey leaving the team, the two injuries to Copa and Romero, and the passing of Will Trevillion, leaves the Bobcats with just seven offensive lineman on their roster for spring practice. This is troublesome for many reasons, the main one being that they don’t have a full set of starters and backups. They did add four offensive linemen in the 2016 class so they should have 12 by fall, with Romero expected back.
