Colleges have dipped into the Texas high school coaching ranks for another hire.  Prosper’s Chris Ross became the latest to make the move when he accepted the position of director of program development at Boise State.

“Boise State is a national brand,” he told the Dallas Morning News.  “There are very few places that can say that.”

Ross will take responsibility for off-field efforts including recruiting and player development for the Broncos.  This position was recently created on the Boise State staff.

“Teaching, connecting, and recruiting – I get to be into everything,” he stated in the Morning News.  “I was just waiting for the right opportunity.”

Ross led the Eagles to a 6-5 mark in his only season at the helm.  In 2015, Prosper lost 24-10 to eventual state finalist Frisco Lone Star in the first round of the Class 5A Division II playoffs.

Prior to accepting the head job at Prosper, Ross spent three years as Leander’s athletic director.  In 12 seasons as a head coach, he compiled an 88-48 record with previous stops at Wichita Falls and Cedar Park.

Following Ross’ resignation, Prosper immediately elevated offensive coordinator Brandon Schmidt to the head position and assistant athletic director Jody Hormann to the AD spot.  Hormann also served as assistant AD to Ross at Leander.

Schmidt has no previous head coaching experience but has been an assistant since 2001.  He joined Ross as OC last season after tenures with LaPorte, Round Rock Stony Point, and Cedar Park.  Schmidt has announced he plans to make no changes in the current Prosper coaching staff.
