One survivor of the horrific shooting spree in Lewiston, Maine, said he fled down a bowling lane and hid within the machinery behind the pins to avoid the gunshots as the gunman opened fire at a restaurant and a bowling alley.

What Happened?

Horrifying accounts started to surface early on Thursday as authorities looked for 40-year-old Robert Card, the suspect, following the shooting rampage at the Schemengees Bar and Grille and the nearby Sparetime Recreation bowling alley. Governor Janet Mills announced on Thursday that the shootings had left 18 persons dead and 13 injured.

According to Brandon, he scurried the entire length of the alley, slid into the pin area, and climbed up to take cover inside the equipment. He was one of many survivors being driven to a middle school in the nearby city of Auburn in order to be reunited with friends and relatives.

Legends Sports Bar and Grill’s owner, Melinda Small, stated that when a customer reported hearing about the shooting at the bowling alley less than a quarter of a mile away, her staff promptly locked their doors and moved all 25 patrons and staff members away from the doors.A policeman eventually led everyone out of the building after the police had flooded the road.

Central Maine Medical Center posted on its website that staff members were “responding to a mass casualty, mass shooter incident” and were working with nearby hospitals to accommodate patients. The hospital was under lockdown, and police were stationed near the entrances, some of them carrying guns.

In a phone conversation with Mills and the senators and representatives of the state, President Joe Biden promised “full federal support in the wake of this horrific attack,” according to a White House statement.

In a statement, independent senator from Maine Angus King expressed his “deep sadness for the city of Lewiston and all those worried about their family, friends, and neighbors” and said he was keeping an eye on the situation. According to King’s office, the senator will take the earliest available flight home to Maine.
