A North Texas Man Is Accused Of Stealing An Athletic Booster Club

Wednesday, the ex-president of the Lake Worth Athletic Booster Club was taken into custody and accused of embezzling a substantial quantity of money from the organization.

What Happened?

An audit of the club’s finances, carried out in January, revealed that there was just $3.35 in the account. The auditors called the police after discovering “suspicious withdrawals” totaling over $13,000 during the audit.

Detectives from Lake Worth Police Department looked into Joey Wilcoxson, 41,’s management of the booster club’s funds for two months, from 2021 to 2023.

Investigators discovered that Wilcoxson had illegally taken money from the booster club and transferred it between the club and Pearl’s Saloon, a company he owned in part.

Following its placement in the business account, Wilcoxson took out cash from a nearby branch. In his capacity as booster club president, Wilcoxson also declined to give financial accounts to the treasurer of the organization.

Wilcoxson is being jailed on a $25,000 bond after being accused with felony theft. The booster club runs independently of the district and “the funds are not managed or overseen by Lake Worth ISD,” according to the district. Wilcoxon was a volunteer member, and Lake Worth ISD stated that it learned about the fraud via the police.

The district added that it will make efforts to guarantee that other organization’s associated with schools have comparable protections.
