After a car chase around the West 7th neighbourhood on Saturday night, a driver was brought into custody.

What Happened?

When Andrew Guerra, 29, drove off, Fort Worth Police attempted to stop him at University Dr. and Bailey Ave. because they thought he was drunk. Before the driver could be stopped by the police, he struck two pedestrians and another car while they were pursuing.

A female voice said, “I just hear what sounded like an explosion and then I look up past the building here and I see a bunch of smoke,” stated the female. “I simply see people sprinting, so I follow suit.” On the sidewalk, I witness a woman yelling that she’s in pain.

According to Fort Worth Police, the two pedestrians and the occupants of the struck automobile were transported to nearby hospitals in stable condition.

“I was so worried for the man because the car that was hit, the black car, it was so bad, and just to see the man there and the people screaming it was surreal it was really scary,” said the female witness.

Guerra was charged with three counts of intoxicated vehicular assault after being taken into custody on the spot.

After multiple police chases turned tragic last summer, the Fort Worth Police Department’s chase protocol has come under fire. On several instances, the News Texas I-Team inquired about their police chase rules. To keep that policy a secret from the public, however, the city of Fort Worth is suing. Just a few days ago, the city council approved a lawsuit that denied the I-Team’s request for the policy.
