The past two days have been devastating for Kim Welch. An anticipated family trip to Maui turned into an evacuation due to raging wildfires that later destroyed the town of Lahaina. According to authorities, at least 53 people have died as a result of the Hawaii island fires as of Thursday.
Survived Safely
You just think of all the faces you saw and pray that they’re safe when you see the news and see that the place you were just 24 hours earlier is gone and people have died, Welch said. Her family managed to reach the destination, she claimed, with the help of a few items and spotty cell coverage.
Welch remarked, “We came out and some kind folks from one of the churches…and some realtors got us this property that is spanking new. The home’s owners and tenants are stocked it with food.

She exclaimed, “It’s unbelievable.” “The meal that was on the table when my family entered the house. We all started crying…After a long period, we finally had a proper meal and slept well.
The Welch family is immensely grateful to have survived safely as they continue to follow events in Hawaii. You experience that on Maui and decide you’ll never want to return, but then you experience the islanders’ affection and think, “Oh, I never wanted to go.
