Amarillo Drug Dealer Is Accused Of Having Glock Switches And Weapons

After being indicted on numerous federal drug and weapons counts, a drug dealer from Amarillo could receive a sentence of up to life in prison.

The 28-year-old Gabriel Michael Rendon is accused of possessing cocaine, marijuana, machine guns, and firearms in connection with a narcotics trafficking offense. He is also accused of being a felon in possession of a handgun.

Accused Of Possession Of Drugs

Due to his conviction for possession of a controlled narcotic with the intent to deliver by an Arkansas state court, Rendon is no longer legally permitted to handle weapons.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Rendon had 76 weapons and 54 Glock switches in his collection.

Inches-long Glock switches, which turn common rifles into machine guns with a terrifyingly high rate of fire, are becoming increasingly common in North Texas, according to U.S. Attorney Leigha Simonton. “A drug dealer who is armed is never good news; a dealer who is armed with a switch is much riskier. These gadgets cannot and will not be allowed to rule our streets.

Jane Marie Burgess, 28, the wife of Rendon, was accused of making a fraudulent statement when purchasing a handgun. She allegedly bought her spouse guns.

On July 26, while Rendon’s house was being searched, Burgess apparently admitted to police that he always kept a gun with him at home.

Burgess May Spend As Much As 10 Years Behind Bars

In order to advance his drug trafficking enterprise, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Rendon allegedly had 43 pistols, 23 rifles, four shotguns, and four revolvers.

According to ATF Dallas Field Division Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey C. Boshek II, the residents of Amarillo can finally exhale in relief that Mr. Rendon is no longer terrorizing the streets of their city. “Illegal firearms and illicit narcotics should never be combined, especially if such firearms are in the hands of a forbidden individual. Together with the Office of the United States Attorney and our cooperating law enforcement agencies.
