Since December is a giving month, the SSA will be handing out two checks during the month rather than just one, provided that the checks are of the appropriate kind. Alright, so the SSA isn’t playing Santa Claus. Every quarter, the agency mails out 2 checks in the same month, and December just so happens to be one of those months. Those who are eligible for SSI benefits will receive the two checks. The SSA reports that the first SSI check will be sent out on Friday, December 1. On Friday, December 29, four weeks from now, the second will be released.

Two Social Security Payments In December

SSI recipients receive two installments in March, June, September, and December, but no payments are made in January, April, July, or October due to an oddity in the payment schedule. For the final four months, there is only one check written. You may think of the extra money you paid in December as a deposit for the following month. The SSA recommends waiting three extra postal days before notifying the agency if you haven’t received your payment by the scheduled date. You should anticipate to receive the reimbursement on the designated date if you get a direct deposit, although the accessibility of the funds may vary depending on your bank.

Eligibility For SSI Benefits

Low-income people with few resources who are blind, 65 years of age or older, or who meet certain disability requirements are eligible to receive SSI benefits. A disability that prevents you from performing and is anticipated to last a year or cause death qualifies. The national maximum SSI benefit rate in 2023 is $1,371 for a couple and $914 for an individual. In 2024, the figures will increase to $943 and $1,415, respectively. December 2023 will go according to the same schedule as every other month. Depending on your birthdate, retirement payments get paid on the 2nd, third, and 4th Wednesday of each month. Your money will be sent to you on December 13, the second Wednesday of the month, if your birthday falls between December 1 and December 10.

You will be reimbursed on the third Wednesday (Dec. 20) if your birthday comes between the 11th and the 20th. Payday falls on the fourth Wednesday of December, which is the birthdays of those born on the 21st through the 31st. Social Security is paid on December 3 if you were eligible for it before to May 1997 or if you get both SSI and Social Security benefits. Social Security beneficiaries will receive their final month of payouts in December 2023 with the largest cost-of-living increase in over 40 years, which is 8.7%. Checks will include a 3.2% COLA starting in January 2024, increasing the average retirement payout by roughly $57 per month.
