Trooper Allegedly Pulled a Gun Over a Traffic Check

The suspension comes after reported incidents involving Texas DPS Troopers. In one incident, a trooper allegedly pulled a gun over a father and his 10-year-old son in a traffic check outside their house in South Austin last Sunday night. DPS had denied the incident and announced that they will be releasing a bodycam video for the incident.

Carlos Meza, the father mentioned in the incident said they were not aware that they were asked to pull over. He mentioned that they had came to a stop to let his son use the bathroom, but a DPS trooper had pulled a gun over them.

Trooper Shoot a Driver in the Arm

On another incident, Texas DPS trooper was involved in a high-speed pursuit which resulted in an vehicular crash in a parking lot in North Austin. The driver had tried to flee the scene but the trooper shot him in the arm. According to reports, the driver had warrants of arrest and is a gang member.

The partnership between Texas DPS and the Austin Police Department last March to due increasing crime rate in the city. Austin Mayor, Mayor Kirk Watson had supported the partnership to make all residents feel safe and secured.  However, due to the recent events, Austin Mayor had seen the need to suspend the alliance.

There will be no timeline as to when will the suspension ends, but Austin Mayor himself said the partnership had led to decreased violent crime, fewer traffic accidents and faster response time.
